The end of involutary thought spirals
Becoming focussed and aware
Before starting the program, it's important to recognize that our conditioned lives have led us to develop habits of constant planning, overthinking, worrying, and feeling pressured. We often feel the need to be, do, and have things in order to compete and "succeed" within this framework of existence.
This means our conscious attention and focus are almost constantly submerged in strategies and planning—trying to get everything done and avoid potential pitfalls. We also find ourselves analyzing our performance, comparing it to others, and often engaging in harsh self-criticism, which leads to negative self-perceptions.
These distractions leave most of us unaware of where our conscious attention is at any given moment. As a result, we don't realize that our suffering is rooted in these thought spirals, to which we give far more attention than our senses—the very place where the peaceful beauty of life truly resides.
This lack of conscious awareness causes many people to be lost in their own thoughts. Even when they briefly experience thoughtless, sensory presence, they are quickly triggered back into self-defeating thoughts.
Become a conscious and peaceful, master meditator dissolving your beliefs and limitations.
Every practice at the retreat is a form of meditation. While many people associate meditation with a cross-legged seated ritual, it's important to understand that meditation can be practiced anywhere and at any time.
Learning the foundations of meditation is essential. During the retreat, you will gain a deep understanding of meditation, enabling you to both guide your own practices and facilitate them for others.
You will be gently guided into meditations that lead you to experience the bliss within, and as you progress, you will begin to self-lead these practices. This process reveals the dysfunctional relationship many of us have with relying on external people, places, and things to feel good and enjoy our lives. Discovering inner bliss is the first step toward realizing that it is possible to feel good independently of the outside world.
The retreat offers multi-dimensional meditations in various settings and activities, helping you raise your conscious awareness of where you focus your attention. This heightened awareness will profoundly dissolve the beliefs and patterns that currently limit your enjoyment of life.
Meditation is a journey toward both permanent presence and inner peace. The daily schedule includes several planned meditations—some guided, some self-led—and encourages you to practice in various ways throughout the day. These practices will help you integrate meditation into your life until it becomes a natural way of being.
Whether you have meditated before or not, you will discover the power of meditation and its ability to connect you to both your senses and the deeper essence of who you truly are. This will be achieved through a combination of sensory-focused meditations and advanced, unfocused meditations and kriya.
This journey into a meditative life will help you let go and discover your true self, as you learn various forms of meditation to support this process.
Thoughless sensory presence
A journey toward living fully in the present moment, Thoughtless Sensory Presence encourages us to engage deeply with our sensory experiences. This practice invites us to step away from the incessant chatter of the mind and immerse ourselves in the vibrant, immediate world of our senses.
The Essence of Presence
Presence is the state where we are thoughtless and fully involved in our sensory inputs or energetic sensations. Imagine being completely absorbed in the warmth of the sun on your skin, the sound of birds singing, or the taste of your favorite food. In these moments, thoughts fade away, and you are entirely engaged with the present. This is the essence of Thoughtless Sensory Presence.
The Practice of Resetting to Our Senses
When we find ourselves caught in a stream of thoughts, we can consciously reset our attention to our senses. This simple act of returning to sensory input when we notice our minds wandering brings two profound benefits.
-
Awareness of Attention. By repeatedly shifting our focus from thought to sensory experience, we become progressively more aware of where our attention is at any given moment. We start to see it move between thought and sensory input, gaining insight into the dynamics of our awareness. This heightened awareness is a powerful tool, helping us recognize when we are lost in thought and gently guiding us back to the present.
-
Withdrawal of Interest from Thoughts. Consciously resetting to sensory input rather than engaging with our involuntary thought streams has the effect of withdrawing our interest and attention from our thoughts. Thoughts are our ideas, beliefs, and opinions speaking, and they are fueled by the level of interest and involvement we place upon them. By redirecting our focus to the senses, we diminish the importance and perceived truth of these underlying ideas, beliefs, and opinions.
The Impact on Beliefs and Triggers
Thoughts derive their power from the interest and importance we assign to them. When we repeatedly shift our focus back to sensory experiences, we actively remove the significance from the beliefs that drive these thoughts. Over time, this practice reduces the emotional triggers associated with these beliefs, thereby decreasing the propensity to be pulled into involuntary thought.
Without these triggers, we remain present. However, if we consider our ideas to be interesting, important, or true, they become active triggers that intrude upon our otherwise peaceful, sensory present existence. By diminishing the power of these triggers, we cultivate a state of ongoing presence and tranquility.
Profound and Progressive Benefits
The practice of Thoughtless Sensory Presence offers profound and progressive benefits. As we become more adept at shifting our focus from thought to sensory input, we develop a greater sense of inner peace and stability. The mind's chatter diminishes, and we find ourselves more deeply connected to the present moment. This presence enhances our ability to experience life fully, with clarity and joy.
Over time, as the triggers lose their hold, we remain anchored in the present more consistently. The practice fosters a sense of calm and equanimity, allowing us to navigate life's challenges with greater ease and grace. Our sensory experiences become richer and more vibrant, and we engage with the world from a place of authenticity and mindfulness.

The practices of Karma Butterfly: Embrace Service with Presence and Purpose
Welcome to the transformative path of the Karma Butterfly, a principle that transcends traditional notions of work and service. The Karma Butterfly invites you to engage in selfless action with complete presence, shifting your focus from the mind’s chatter to the purity of your actions and senses.
Being Present in Service
At the heart of the Karma Butterfly is the practice of being fully present while serving others. Imagine each action as the gentle flutter of a butterfly’s wings, delicate yet impactful. When you perform a task, whether it’s helping with cooking or contributing to planting or weeding at the retreat, immerse yourself completely in the experience. Feel the texture of the work, hear the sounds around you, and become attuned to the moment. This presence transforms mundane tasks into meaningful acts of service, enriching both your life and the lives of those you touch.
No Need for Thanks or Reward
In the spirit of the Karma Butterfly, your actions are performed without seeking thanks or rewards. Like the butterfly that flits from flower to flower, spreading pollen without expectation, your service is an end in itself. This selfless approach cultivates a pure form of giving, where the act of helping becomes its own reward. The satisfaction comes from knowing you have contributed to the greater good, not from external validation or recognition.
Resetting to Actions and Senses
A key aspect of the Karma Butterfly is the repetitive practice of resetting your focus to your actions and senses. When you notice your mind drifting into thoughts or judgments, gently bring your attention back to what you are doing. This practice, akin to a butterfly returning to a flower, keeps you grounded and centered. It allows you to experience each moment fully, free from the distractions of the mind. This continual return to presence enhances your awareness and deepens your connection to your work.
Reframing "Work"
The word “work” often carries negative connotations, evoking images of toil and obligation. The Karma Butterfly encourages you to reframe this perception. By removing the label of “work,” you liberate yourself from the mental constraints that can make activities feel burdensome. Instead, view your tasks as opportunities to serve and contribute to the community. This shift in perspective transforms “work” into a series of meaningful actions that nourish both you and those around you. Action becomes life.
Serving Without Expectation
When you engage in activities without labelling them as work, you open yourself to the joy of serving without expectation. This absence of labeling creates a space where you can give freely and generously. Your actions become expressions of love and compassion, unburdened by the desire for reward or recognition. This pure form of service fosters a deep sense of fulfillment and connection to your community.
Embrace the Karma Butterfly
By embracing the principles of the Karma Butterfly, you embark on a path of profound presence. You learn to reset your focus to the actions and senses, transforming ordinary tasks into extraordinary acts of love that will dissolve your long-held beliefs in the process.
Join us on this journey of the Karma Butterfly, where each action, like a butterfly’s wingbeat, creates ripples of positive change in you and the world. Embrace the present, take action with an open heart, and discover the profound beauty of presence in every action.
Progressive Zazen
Zazen is the foundation of Zen Buddhism, yet it is fundamentally a progressive practice designed to guide participants to higher states of consciousness. Zen Buddhists view it as a path to enlightenment—a state where the true nature of the self and the universe is revealed.
This powerful practice begins with its foundational stages, leading participants through various exercises that progressively demand greater conscious focus.
For those new to this practice, conscious focus can often be scattered and easily disrupted by involuntary thoughts.
Zazen, an eyes-open meditation practice, will help strengthen your focus, bring increasing peace, and allow you to observe your progress along the way. When practiced daily, Zazen will quickly enhance your ability to concentrate and transform your approach to thought and action in everyday life.
Informational Isolation
As you learn the mechanism of your mind and thoughts, you will see that information in, causes involuntary thoughts to trigger and intrude. At the retreat we are a closed reality, meaning that there is very little coming in or going out into the outside world when it comes to information.
There are no TVs and we recommend that computers and phones are locked away and used only for essential communication. This means that you can relax in the peace of the retreat without distractions coming in from the outside world.
The transformative power of consciously communicating and receiving
Welcome to the transformative practice of Conscious Communication. This approach to interacting with others is designed to create space, reduce conflict, and dissolve the attachments and beliefs that often drive our words, actions, and behaviors. By embracing Conscious Communication, you open the door to more meaningful, peaceful, and respectful interactions.
The Essence of Conscious Listening
Conscious Listening is the foundation of Conscious Communication. It involves listening without thought, focusing on the senses rather than preparing responses while others are speaking. When we listen consciously, we give our full attention to the speaker, absorbing their words and emotions without the interference of our own thoughts and judgments.
Breaking the Pattern of Presumptive Responses
Often, in conversations, we fall into the habit of preparing our responses while the other person is still speaking. This leads to a pattern where we respond to what we think they are going to say rather than what they actually said. This behavior not only creates misunderstandings but also diminishes the quality of the interaction. By consciously listening, we break this pattern, ensuring that our responses are genuinely based on the speaker’s words.
Trusting Intuitive Flow in Responses
Conscious Communication also involves responding without preparation, trusting the intuitive flow to guide our words and responses. This means listening fully until the other person has finished speaking, allowing their message to be completely received. When it is our turn to speak, we trust that the right words will come naturally. Often, we find that in many cases, there may be no response needed at all, and this realization fosters a deeper connection and understanding.
The Impact of Conscious Communication
Practicing Conscious Communication has a profound impact on conversations. It removes interruptions, arguments, and conflicts, creating interactions that are respectful and peaceful. By listening without the need to prepare responses, we honor the speaker and create a space where both parties feel heard and valued. This respectful exchange leads to more harmonious relationships and a greater sense of community and connection.
Extending Thoughtless Listening to All Communication
The principles of Conscious Listening can be applied beyond face-to-face interactions. Whether receiving any form of communication, such as watching TV or reading an email, redirecting our focus to the senses and ceasing to consider our ideas about what’s being communicated reveals a new clarity. This approach changes our perception from one tainted by thought to a direct reception of information without distortion.
The Path to Clear and Respectful Communication
By embracing Conscious Communication, you embark on a journey toward more meaningful and peaceful interactions. You learn to listen with your full presence, respond intuitively, and create space for genuine connection. This practice dissolves the attachments and beliefs that drive much of our communication, leading progressively to less limiting beliefs and the reduction of needless opinion, creating interactions that are clear, respectful, and free of conflict.
Join us in the practice of Conscious Communication. Experience the profound impact of listening without thought, responding with intuition, and creating a space for peaceful, respectful interactions. Transform your life by dissolving accumulated polarised beliefs and discover the progressive peace it brings.
Practices are not practices, they are steps to unlearning life-long, unconscious habits
At first, our practices may seem like regular, scheduled rituals, but participants quickly realize they are much more than that.
We often find ourselves lost in our thoughts, tangled in the stories they create, without even realizing we've fallen into another thought spiral. This constant mental chatter requires us to consciously direct our attention and become aware of where it truly is. Is it engaged with the present world, or is it submerged in thoughts of what we should be, do, or have to feel content?
The practices begin as conscious activities but soon become an automatic state of being. Since you are naturally conscious before thought triggers pull you into a spiral, these practices help you notice where your attention drifts and guide it back.
The goal is to integrate this awareness of your focused attention into almost every aspect of your waking life. By combining this heightened consciousness with a deep understanding of the mind's mechanisms, these practices gradually release the grip of thought triggers, fostering inner peace and dissolving long-held attachments.
Our program schedule is designed to immerse you in these practices, alongside several other conscious activities. You'll practice both alone and with other participants, fully dedicating yourself to this process. This marks the beginning of a progressive journey toward a quiet mind—one free from suffering, where you can enjoy life without the conditioned habits that currently hold you back.
